Perry Dozier Jr. Carves His Own Way

December 31, 2012 - Much has been written about Perry Dozier Jr. the sharpshooting 2015 guard from Columbia SC. He burst onto the national scene a few years back by being ranked as the #1 sixth grader in the country. Articles in the New York Times and other media outlets spotlighted this diaper dandies potential and pedigree. After watching his development over the past few years and his recent performances from the Chick Fil A Classic, Allmetrosports.com caught up with burgeoning star from the Palmetto state.

We learned about his love for the game of basketball, his love of family and his belief that the success of his team at Spring Valley High School is more important to him than his individual accolades.

Q: So Perry how would you describe your game?
A: I have an all around game; I try to get my teammates involved.

Q: What motivates you as a basketball player?
A: Trying to get better everyday and using the negatives and people doubting me as fuel.

Q: What are your Goals for this season?
A: Winning the region championship and going to the state championship.

Q: What tournaments are you and your team playing in this year and are there any rivalry games coming up?
A: We play my uncles team (Westwood HS) for the 2nd time this year itís a fun family rivalry. We also play in the Chick Fila Classic and Beach Ball.

Q: What colleges are currently recruiting you and do you have any offers yet?
A: Ohio State, Kansas, South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Virginia Tech and Wichita State are recruiting me. My offers are from: Ohio State. Kansas, Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina also.

Q: Do you have any favorites at this time?
A: Not really

Q: What schools have you visited officially or unofficially so far?
A: I havenít went on any visits yet

Q: Tell us about your experience with USA basketball?
A: Itís was a great experience being able to go to Colorado Springs and playing with great players from all over the country. The air was thin up there because of the altitude but it was a great experience.

Q: What position do you see yourself playing in college?
A: Point Guard and Shooting Guard.

Q: What have you improved this past summer and what do you think you need to improve on?
A: Trying to improve on agility and foot speed. Iím trying to work on my complete game.

A: I got my money on my uncle. Lol

Q: Do you have anything else that you would like for people to know about you?
A: Iím just a kid that trying to strive to do my best. My goal is to not just make it to the NBA but also be a player in the NBA that made a name for himself. I just feel very fortunate and appreciative to have people calling me for interviews about my game and I know that without God none of this would be possibleÖ
